The natural man cannot receive spiritual things. But the Greek reveals this is a developmental state not a permanent condition.

There is a verse in 1 Corinthians 2 that has been used to justify some of the most intellectually arrogant behavior in the history of institutional Christianity.

The natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God for they are foolishness to him. Neither can he know them because they are spiritually discerned.

In the hands of the institution this verse became a weapon. A way of dismissing anyone who questioned the theological claims being made. You cannot understand because you are not spiritual. The conversation is over before it begins.

But the original Greek describes something completely different from what the institutional reading produced. And when you go back to what Paul actually wrote the verse becomes not a weapon but a precise map of the human consciousness and the specific development required for genuine spiritual perception.
